Nottingham Forest FC Partners with Local Schools to Plant 1,000 Trees

Nottingham Forest FC has teamed up with local schools to plant 1,000 trees across Nottingham by the end of 2025. This initiative aims to increase local biodiversity, reduce carbon footprints, and engage students in environmental stewardship with a strong educational component about climate change.

Nottingham Forest FC has initiated a collaborative environmental project with 20 local schools, aiming to plant 1,000 trees throughout Nottingham by the end of 2025. This partnership, launched in December 2025, focuses on enhancing the city's green spaces while providing students with practical education on environmental sustainability. Each school involved will receive 50 trees, with comprehensive support from Nottingham Forest FC's environmental team for planting and maintenance.

The project is valued at approximately £50,000, encompassing tree saplings, necessary equipment, and educational materials. The club's investment is part of a broader commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting biodiversity within Nottingham. "By involving local schools, we can educate the younger generation on the importance of environmental stewardship and empower them to make a positive impact in their communities," said a Nottingham Forest FC spokesperson.

Programme Details

The programme includes workshops led by Nottingham Forest FC staff and environmental experts, designed to educate students about the importance of trees in combating climate change. These sessions cover topics such as the carbon cycle, the role of trees in ecosystems, and practical tree-planting techniques. Schools participating in the initiative include John Clifford School, Bluecoat Wollaton Academy, and others, each receiving approximately 50 saplings.

One direct beneficiary, Alice Thompson, a student at Bluecoat Wollaton Academy, shared her experience: "Before the programme, I didn't know much about climate change. Now, I understand how planting trees can make a difference." The initiative also provides opportunities for students to participate in ongoing care and monitoring of the trees, fostering a deeper connection to their local environment.

For schools interested in joining future phases of the programme, Nottingham Forest FC encourages them to contact their Environmental Outreach Coordinator at outreach@nottinghamforestfc.co.uk or call 0115 982 4444 for more information.

Measurable Outcomes

The initiative aims to increase Nottingham's urban tree cover by approximately 2%, contributing to the city’s broader environmental goals. By the end of 2025, it is anticipated that the trees will collectively sequester an estimated 22 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, according to calculations provided by the environmental consultancy engaged by Nottingham Forest FC.

Success metrics include not only the number of trees planted but also the survival rate of these trees, which is expected to be at least 85% due to the comprehensive care plan implemented. Furthermore, the programme anticipates engaging over 2,000 students, fostering a new generation of environmentally-conscious citizens.

Looking forward, Nottingham Forest FC plans to evaluate the programme's impact through regular assessments of the tree sites and student feedback. The club is committed to expanding the initiative if the initial phase proves successful, with plans to introduce similar projects in surrounding areas.

This initiative by Nottingham Forest FC demonstrates the club's commitment to environmental sustainability and community involvement, setting a benchmark for other organisations in the region. Schools interested in participating are encouraged to apply before the deadline on 31st January 2026. For more information, visit Nottingham Forest FC’s official website.
